Small_Business_Week_LogoLinkedIn has changed the way that business professionals look at social media. It has also revolutionized the way that you people find jobs, look for new hires, and represent yourself themselves online. There are so many different benefits to getting on LinkedIn daily, one of them is LinkedIn groups.

If you aren’t participating in at least one LinkedIn group, here are four reasons why you are missing out:

       1.    Network with top business professionals

LinkedIn is filled with many different types of professionals from different lines of work. There is a group for just about every profession you can think of. Don’t just join random LinkedIn groups—join groups that provide value and are interesting to you. I suggest joining some groups in your profession and some that you don’t know so well.

      2.    Get advice from experienced professionals for free

There are all kinds of people in each LinkedIn group too. They are ready and willing to help you with expert advice. Start a discussion with a simple and easy-to-understand question. I have learned so much from asking questions in the right group.

      3.    Build your personal brand and connections

Joining and participating in a LinkedIn group is a great way to build your personal brand by sharing best practices. It’s also a good way to establish yourself as a thought leader. Members ask questions or for expert opinions daily. By responding in a well thought out response, showing your knowledge on the subject, it won’t take long before you’ve gained the respect of others in the group.  You want other members to ask themselves, “Who is this person?” They will end up checking out your profile and possibly connecting with you.

      4.    Create business leads

As a sales or lead generation marketing agent, LinkedIn groups are a great way to create leads for your company. Depending on the group rules, there are different tactics to creating interest to direct link. The safest way to post in a group (without it being considered spam) is to post a link to a landing page under the “promotions” tab.  You can be a little more risky by posting under the “discussions” tab. Just make sure that whatever you post in discussions is there to engage other group members. If the group manager considers it spam they could block or moderate any future posts. The discussion area is about sharing ideas, not making sales pitches.

Do yourself a favor by joining a LinkedIn group right now. Commit to logging in once a day and contributing. By doing this, your profile will be viewed by more people with similar interests, you will have more requests for connections, and your knowledge about certain subjects will increase with every question asked.
