Tired of poor leadership practices observed within organizations around the world, father and son team Bob and Gregg Vanourek interviewed 61 different organizations in 11 countries to discover common practices shared by many of the most successful organizations around the world.

“Leaders need to make their numbers,” says Bob Vanoureck, but he argues that there is a strong correlation between ethical business practices and excellence. What’s more, he suggests that we should talk less about the leader and more about leadership. “Great leadership is a group performance,” he says.

Bob argues that organizations who are waiting to find a “Superman” to lead their organizations might be in for a disappointment because there is no Superman. The answer to most of the leadership challenges facing organizations is to unleash the potential of the talent within their organizations. The problem, according to Vanoureck, is that most organizations lead people the wrong way—most common leadership practices don’t encourage peak performance, they discourage people from stepping up and performing at a high level.

The successful organizations interview by the Vanoureks did a really good job of creating a culture of character and hire for culture and fit. It’s not just about what a potential employee can do, it’s what’s in their heart.

Triple Crown Leadership: Building Excellent, Ethical, and Enduring Organizations is a great place to discover an effective way to successfully build your company by combining ethics  and excellence to create an enduring organization.
