Roney receives $2,500 to help grow Red Wagon Toys and complete his education

Lendio, the online leader* in helping businesses find the right business loan within minutes announced today that it has named Ty Roney, University of Utah MBA student and Founder/CEO of Red Wagon Toys, the winner of its 2012 Brock Blake Student Entrepreneur of the Year scholarship.

Roney began his career as an entrepreneur in the eighth grade by making ski videos with his friends, which continued until they went to college.  He and his friends filmed, edited, produced, and premiered ski movies, sold merchandise, procured sponsors, and were featured in a prominent ski magazine.  In 2009, he and his cousin developed a board game and sold it to Asmodee, a well-known board game publisher.

“One of the trends we’re seeing is a growing number of college students who are starting their own businesses instead of banking on employment after graduation,” said Brock Blake, CEO of Lendio.  “I was one of these student entrepreneurs and know how an infusion of funds can help a student start and grow their business. We are impressed with what Ty has done so far and felt that this scholarship would help he and his team grow their business and help strengthen the economy while creating new jobs.”

Roney graduated from Brigham Young University (BYU) in Business Management and is currently an MBA student at the University of Utah. He and his business partner started Red Wagon Toys and have been using their tuition money to fund the business.

“I heard about Lendio’s entrepreneur scholarship and applied with the hopes that if I won I could pay for school and continue building Red Wagon Toys,” said Roney.  “I’m grateful to be recognized by Lendio and appreciate their commitment to helping entrepreneurs and small business owners like myself fuel the America dream.”

For business owners interested in learning more about Lendio or in finding funding for their business, it’s as simple as creating a free Lendio profile.
