Here at Lendio, our passion is seeing people live the American Dream. Not only are people improving their own lives by running a business, they’re improving a community. A lot of people we interview for Faces of Main Street powered by Lendio, a site dedicated to telling every entrepreneur’s story, give some really great business advice. Here is some insightful advice on becoming a better business owner by having passion.
Business Owner: Russ Evans Business: Block 100 Antiques & Mercantile Location: Provo, Utah
Advice: “Joshua James quoted Abraham Lincoln, he said, “If you are going to do something, do it well.” And in his music he personifies that in certain lyrics, one of those things is ‘to not to have fear and to trust yourself.’ I’m paraphrasing his poetry, but in that poetry, he talks about being you and being the best you that you can be. When he says it, he does it in a way that his whole body expresses it, he says ‘DO IT, just go out and do it” so what I would tell anybody is to do what Abraham Lincoln said and Joshua clarified so well, and that is if you are going to do something, do it with your whole heart and soul, put everything you have into it, and don’t fear.”

Business Owner: Darren Knezek Business: Mountainworks Location: Provo, Utah
Advice: “I’d say really make sure you like what you’re doing. You know everybody’s heard that saying, “if you love your work, you’ll never work a day in your life.” So, if you love it then it doesn’t really feel like you’re working. When I come to work it doesn’t really feel like I’m working, hardly ever.”
“Anybody can tell you, ‘If you do this job or that job you are going to make all kinds of money.’ But, there’s no guarantee that’s going to happen. So, make sure you really like what you’re doing and you really dig it, because it’s going to be quite stressful at times. The best thing about owning your own business is doing what you love and not having anyone tell you what to do.”
Business Owner: Andrew Simeona Business: Chop City Location: Salt Lake City, Utah
Advice: “Leave your comfort zone and find ways to act on your ideas. No one likes a missed opportunity.”
