It’s pretty common knowledge that two out of every three new jobs is created in small business. What’s more, nearly half of the recently reported 200,000 or so new jobs created last month were created in small business. 289 days after former SBA Administrator Karen Mills announced her upcoming retirement there is still no evidence that the Obama Administration is nearing an announcement of a successor.
I like Acting Administrator Jeanne Hulit. Despite the government shutdown in October, she seems to be capably running the SBA. I think it’s time to either make her position permanent, or appoint a replacement.
Granted, the SBA is not the biggest source of capital for small business generally, or Main Street in particular, but they have a lot to do regarding the tone of small business lending. Mr. President, please give the SBA the same level of importance you’ve given the other 270 nominations you’ve made in the nine months since Mills’ announcement.
