There is an app for everything, even running your business

We live in the digital age, where if something seems harder than it should be, there is an App to make it easier. If you don’t know how to do something, there is an App to help you learn. If you don’t want to hire someone to handle a certain aspect of your business, there is an App that can help you do that. So get your thumbs ready because I know you’ll want to explore and download these great Apps:

  1. Facebook Pages Manager

App Description: Pages Manager helps admins connect with their audience and keep up with activity on multiple Pages, all in one place.

Why you should have it: This is a must for any business owner who wants to stay up to date on what their customer’s want/need. You’ll get notifications whenever someone comments on any of your posted content, pages, or advertising..

  1. Trello

App description: Whether you’re managing a team of freelancers, writing an epic screenplay, or just making a list of stuff, Trello makes sure you’re organized and on top of it all.

Why you should have it: You can use this app in a lot of ways. As a business owner, I would use it to create transparency and hold employees accountable for projects. Use this tool to better manage what you and your employees plan to do, current projects, and completed tasks.

  1. CamScanner Free

App Description: CamScanner helps you scan, store, sync, and collaborate on various contents across smartphones, iPads, tablets, and computers.

Why you should have it: Have you ever had a physical paper document that you needed to get to someone but didn’t have a scanner available to you? Don’t just take a picture of it, use CamScanner and it’ll turn your picture into a PDF document that you can edit, share, or view.

  1. DailyQuote

App Description: Inspirational and Motivational Quotes, powerful nuggets of wisdom condensed into one or two lines. This App aims to provide you with a brief daily moment of reflection, or in times of adversity, inspiration to persevere.

Why you should have it: Being an entrepreneur is tough and sometimes you need something to kick start your day off mentally. Start each day off with inspiration and motivate yourself to continue your journey.

  1. Buffer

App Description: Share to Twitter, Google+, Pinterest, LinkedIn, and App.net – all from one place, on your schedule.

Why you should have it: Social media is a place to share the content your business creates within its blog. This App will stop you from wasting your time going from platform to platform posting the same thing. Just post it here and Buffer will distribute it for you at various times so you don’t smother your followers.

  1. Evernote

App Description: Evernote for iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch is the modern workspace that syncs between all your devices. Work everywhere and stay productive.

Why you should have it: Evernote is a great place to write down notes from meetings, ideas for your business, save PDFs, and/or whatever documents you want to do. Make sure to install Evernote Web Clipper for Safari (or for Chrome) to save online articles directly to your Evernote for later viewing and/or note taking.

  1. Yelp for Business Owners

App Description: The Yelp for Business Owners app allows you to view important business analytics and connect with your customers, including those who have written reviews for your business. This app puts the power of Yelp’s tools right in your pocket!

Why you should have it: If you have a business with a physical location that sells goods or services, your business could already be on Yelp and getting negative or hopefully positive reviews. Take control of your business’s page for branding purposes, but understand the one thing you can’t control is whether people leave negative or positive reviews. You should make it your goal to learn from each review shared. If you don’t know how to handle upset customers, learn about the acronym B.L.A.S.T.

  1. Square Register

App Description: Square Register keeps track of sales and inventory, lets you manage items, and view analytics about your business—all from your point of sale. If you’re in the U.S., you can also take payments with a Square Reader or Square Stand. No fees, commitments, or surprises.

Why you should have it: When your business is “cash only” you alienate any customer who doesn’t carry cash, which is becoming more common. I understand you would like to have minimal overhead to increase revenue and avoid transaction fees, but you’re ultimately creating the opportunity for customers to think, “I can’t go there today, I don’t have cash on me.” Get his app, a free Square reader, and avoid that from happening.

  1. IF

App Description: IF connects the apps you love. Create simple connections between apps like Facebook, Dropbox, Instagram, Twitter, and Gmail, as well as devices like your iPhone, Nest Thermostat, Fitbit, and Philips Hue.

Why you should have it: IF is by IFTTT, which stands for If this, than that. It means you can program your apps to do something if something else happens. IF even has a collection of “Recipes for the Small Business Owner” that can help streamline your business and save you time. For example: If a payment is accepted via Square (the app mentioned above) add the details of it to a spreadsheet on Google Sheets.

  1. Mailbox

App Description: The fast, fun mobile inbox that puts email in its place.

Why you should have it: If you’re like me, you stress out about emails. Mailbox is a simple, beautiful, and easy app to help you manage your email. Mailbox’s main goal is to help you bring your mailbox to zero everyday.

  1. TED

App Description: Access riveting talks from some of the world’s most fascinating people — wherever you are.

Why you should have it: There is so much you can learn from other people and there are so many great TED talks out there, especially one’s about how to be a better entrepreneur, business owner, or just person in general. Instead of watching something on Netflix or playing Angry Birds 2 on your phone during lunch, pick a TED talk to watch/listen to that intrigues you.

  1. Slack

App Description: All your team communication in one place, instantly searchable, available anywhere you go.

Why you should have it: Everyone has their favorite IM (Facebook, Google, iMessage, etc.), but this is a simple and easy way to get your whole team on one tool that is easy to use and free. Plus it’s a great way to eliminate unnecessary emails.

  1. Google Analytics

App Description: Access all your Google Analytics web and app data from your mobile device. Monitor recent changes with Real Time reports. Easily get your Analytics data anytime, anywhere.

Why you should have it: Any business that has a website (every business should have a website) should have Google Analytics to understand your website traffic. You have to set it up on your desktop before you can access it on this app.

  1. Stitcher Radio for Podcasts

App Description: Listen to your favorite news, comedy, sports and talk show radio shows and podcasts on demand from your iPhone or iPad.

Why you should have it: There are hundreds of great podcasts that talk about business in general or vary in specific topics like finance, management, or marketing. Listen to any these while traveling to and from work, while working, or even doing something in your leisure time.

  1. Followers+

App Description: Track your lost/gained followers

Why you should have it: Does your company have an instagram? Then this is a great app for you. You can use it to see how many followers you have gained or lost. Essentially, this is an analytical reporter for your Instagram.

  1. Bitly

App Description: Unleash the power of the link with the Bitly app.

Why you should have it: Anytime you go to share a link, put it in your Bitly app first to make sure you can see detailed analytics about the links. This could help you with understanding what content is most viral.

  1. Klout

App Description: Klout helps people be great at social media. You can easily find, create, and share content that resonates with your audience — and then track your success using the Klout score.

Why you should have it: Ever wonder how well you do social media? Klout has created their “Klout score” to put a number to how well you do social media. The score takes into account how many people interact with your content you post on social media. You can see your Klout score go down when you post irrelevant content to your audience, or see it go up when you post relevant content with your audience.

  1. Mint

App Description: The free Mint app helps you spend smarter and save more. Easily pull all of your accounts, cards and investments into one place so you can track your spending, create a budget, receive bill reminders, and get customized tips for reducing fees and saving money.

Why you should have it: Put all your business’ accounts in one spot to easily monitor your cash flow. It can help you see where you are overspending, makes sure you don’t get a late fee on a business credit card, or make sure you aren’t getting charged any fees that you shouldn’t be.

  1. MailChimp

App Description: With just a few taps, you can manage your lists, add new subscribers, send campaigns, and view your reports. Create a campaign on your desktop or tablet, and send it from your iPhone once your team signs off. MailChimp’s mobile app makes it easy to get your work done from wherever you are.

Why you should have it: Email marketing is still one of the most effective channels when it comes to reaching an audience that cares about your products, industry updates, and new-relevant content. This app will make sure that you can reach out to your email list(s) where ever you are or review an already set up campaign and give it the green light.

  1. GroupMe

App Description:  A home for all the groups in your life.

Why you should have it: Ever send a group message to an IM but one person didn’t get it because they haven’t downloaded the app or haven’t been to their computer? This app takes the IM to texting. When you set up a GroupMe group, it will create a separate telephone # and when anyone texts it, it will send the message to the group with the person’s name next to it. You don’t even need to have a smartphone, as long as someone has a phone that can text, they can be in the group message.

There are thousands of Apps out there and more get added every day. If you stumble upon an app that you love to use, as a business owner, I would love to check it out—comment below, and be sure to let me know why you like it and how you use it.
