The morning ritual; a set of actions you do immediately upon waking up to prepare and optimize yourself for a more productive and focused day. As any type of business owner or entrepreneur, this is vital, so listen up.
A lot of individuals have poor morning routines, such as, waking up late, rushing to get out the door and grabbing a coffee for breakfast while on the go. This poor setup not only diminishes your morning but, can set a bad tone for your whole day.
However, the good news is that every morning you have a choice to give yourself a better day. So why not get up and get ready, because you’re going to switch things around and build the perfect morning routine to supercharge your day.
It’s Not Rocket Science
Let’s quickly talk about two different waking routines for the start of your day:
You are up 30 minutes earlier than normal and spend several of those minutes in silence. Noticing the stillness before you begin your day. You then sit up, close your eyes and begin to spend the next few minutes ruminating, simply focusing on your breathing and practicing controlling your thoughts. At your own time, you fix yourself a coffee or smoothie. Then while enjoying breakfast you are able to list your goals or to-do list for the day. Finally, you pick your phone to check your notifications from the night and adjust your priorities accordingly.
You wake up and instantly grab your smart phone, almost blinded by the bright screen because you are still experiencing the sleepy eyes. You jump through the stream of notifications, emails, social networks, news feeds, texts, and so forth. The time you could have spent mentally readying yourself has been given to the social gods. You finally get up and turn on the TV while you get ready. You notice you’re already running late so you pounce out the door without breakfast and rush to work to start your day.
This might sound like two extremely different mornings, however, the difference between these two mornings is really just a few small simple choices. Even if you’re currently close two either scenario, there’s still likely a ton of room for improvement.
Why is This So Important? The Morning Routine to Start My Day.
Ask yourself, is it possible you can feel better each day? Can you work harder? Can you be more alert, focused and relaxed if you changed a few different things to start your day?
More than likely, you’re going to wake up tomorrow morning, and the morning after, and the morning after, and likely the next 15,000 mornings after that, and then maybe some more. Why not spend some time to figure out what will give you a better, more enhanced start to your day since you have so many ahead of you?
That’s why it’s important. No scientific studies or psychology required. It’s common sense.
What Does a Morning Routine Look Like?
A morning routine or ritual is entirely dependent upon the person whom implements it. It can be just one or two things, or it can be half a dozen. Personally, my morning routine consists of 7 different things I do each day. There’s really no definition of what this ritual looks like or needs to look like. In the end, it’s really whatever makes and get you going, helps your feel better, and provides you with more focus and alert for the day ahead.
Here’s an example of what my morning looks like:
- Wake up 1 hour early (yes, one whole hour)
- Read for 20 minutes
- Write down some ideas that hit home (business or personal)
- Exercise for 10 minutes (pushups, pullups, jogging)
- Drink and eat a healthy breakfast (eggs, potatoes)
- Define my tasks and goals for the day
- Take a shower, get ready
- Begin my day
A morning routine can be as simple or complex as your want. Here’s one more example:
- Wake up 30 minutes early
- Stretch for 10 minutes
- Drink a tall glass of water
Write down goals for the day in order of importance
Your morning sets the tone for the entire day. It will take time to develop what works well for you. With so many days ahead of you, there’s no reason not to spend some time optimizing a routine and building a ritual that will take you to the next level.
