Home Blog Best States for Small Business Lending – #5 New Hampshire
National Small Business Week (NSBW) is held each year to celebrate how small business owners and entrepreneurs contribute to the development of the American economy. Considering that over half of Americans either own their business or work for a startup, they create more jobs than any other industry. In fact, two of every three jobs made available in the country every year are possible because of small businesses.
Since 1963, the National Small Business Administration (SBA) recognizes the positive influence small business owners and entrepreneurs have on the economy by developing new and innovative businesses, creating jobs and giving their country that all-essential competitive edge over the world.
One of these 50 states and located on the east coast is New Hampshire, the state famous for its incredible natural beauty with lofty mountains, superb, lush green forests, woody valleys, and crystal clear lakes along with gorgeous beaches and oceanic islands. New Hampshire is also the state that gave America, Franklin Pierce its 14th President, Alan Shepard, its first astronaut, and more recently, Jimmy Fallon, well-known talk show host.
The official mascot of that state, the Old Man of the Mountain symbolizes all that is New Hampshire, strong, believing in tradition, astute, innovative, and dedicated to conservation. This attitude is reflected in the many small businesses that thrive in the state. Numbering 130,939 in all, they comprise an amazing 95.8% of the total companies employing more than half of the total workforce or 286,708 workers. At the end of the year 2015, the state projected unemployment levels of 3.1% that is far below the national rate of 5.0% as reported by the Office of Advocacy at the U.S. Small Business Administration. In the coming years, small businesses operating in the many industrial sectors of the state are poised to show exponential growth levels.
