According to the Journal of Business, “In recent years, employees’ comfort on the job, determined by workplace conditions and environment, has been recognized as an important factor for measuring their productivity.” This doesn’t just apply to the corporate world. As a small business owner, providing an inspiring environment for your employees and staff can make a big impact on their levels of productivity. Here are three easy ways you can boost employee productivity through office décor and design:

      1. A smart setup

Not all offices function the same. Therefore, one of the most important factors in productivity is an office that is set up in a way that makes sense for how the workers will actually use the space. For example, an open office plan doesn’t make sense if your employees are required to spend the most of their day on the phone; it will likely result in frustration and disengagement. In contrast, a well-planned and well-arranged office that is both easy to navigate and functional will result in employees who are more relaxed and more able to concentrate on the tasks of the day.

      1. Color psychology

Color psychology in office design has often been debated and discussed, but it’s been a long-established fact that color has a profound influence on our concentration, mood, productivity, and creativity. Consider how these colors can enhance particular characteristics among your employees:

Blue is known for its calming nature and productivity-enhancing effects.

Green is said to promote calmness and efficiency, and it works well in industries where employees work longer hours in the day.

Yellow helps enhance creativity and promotes optimism. Architects, designers, and artists can benefit from this color.

Red is an emotional color and often associated with passion. It’s a good choice for physically demanding trades but not in spaces where tranquility is key.

Since work environments are made up of a whole host of diverse personalities, most offices combine colors in each area to improve overall productivity. Printing onto canvas is a good way to maximize the benefits of color in office decor. For example, you could choose an inspirational image, motivational quote, or your company motto to print on a colorful background.

      1. Lighting

Many studies on office decor and productivity have shown that natural light is better than fluorescent bulbs. Natural light not only increases workplace productivity but also overall happiness among employees. Place desks and workspaces next to large windows or near skylights whenever possible. If you have enough natural light, you can also add plants to the space to bring additional freshness and improve air quality.
